Facility Security Officer

We're expanding our mission beyond commercial spaceflight to enhance U.S. defense capabilities. As a Facility Security Officer, you'll be a key part of that growth, taking Vaya’s groundbreaking engine technology to support our national security.  In this role, you will be instrumental in establishing Vaya’s ability to design, test, and operate within the classified environments required for military systems.


To be successful, it is vital that you are comfortable working in a fast-paced research and development environment, collaborating across functional areas to meet program and DoD needs, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. A willingness to branch outside your comfort zone is essential… we’re a small fast-paced company and everyone pitches in when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Develop, coordinate, and implement actions to gain and maintain Facility Clearance under NISPOM to support Defense-oriented research and development efforts and contract execution.
  • Administer personnel security clearances in government systems (DISS) and work with candidates to obtain/maintain clearance.
  • Provide security briefings, debriefings, and awareness training for site personnel.
  • Provide security guidance and education to company personnel and advise Senior Management
  • Maintain and coordinate excellent working relationships with government agencies.
  • Assure compliance with all government and company security regulations.
  • Maintain classified materials receipt, logging, control, and dissemination. 
  • Maintain accountability of classified government-furnished information and equipment.
  • Create and update security plans, procedures, and instructions.
  • Oversight of company CUI processes and compliance
  • ITAR (International Trade and Arms Regulations) program management and implementation.
  • Respond to alarms and other emergencies to include after normal business hours and/or nights/weekends.
  • Serve as COMSEC Account Manager and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Operate and maintain the site visitor control program
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, marking, and handling of controlled material.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of security community policy changes, communicate pertinent changes, and manage implementation of compliant solutions
  • Support Vaya cybersecurity programs to include the development and management of System Security documentation, Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), assessing and auditing systems security controls, and continuous monitoring of controls.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications


  • Defense Security Service (DSS)-qualified FSO or 5 years’ experience in security programs as
  • with industrial security, NISPOM, COMSEC programs, clearance processing, document control, and physical security; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience implementing NISPOM requirements
  • Possess a DoD SECRET clearance (or current background investigation completed) – current TS (or able to obtain) preferred.
  • Completion of the following CDSE courses: Essentials of Industrial Security Management, Protecting Secret and Classified Documents, FSO Program Management, NSA COMSEC Custodian Academy, FSO Program Management for Possessing Facilities.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, work independently and in team
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as necessary.
  • US Citizen required.


Preferred Qualifications


  • BA or BSci degree in relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience with entire lifecycle of classified contracts, insider threat program, counterintelligence, personnel clearances, secure area builds, creation of standard operation procedures, and visitor management.
  • ISSM or relevant cybersecurity experience
  • Experience with ITAR regulations and administration
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
  • Proactive and self-driven with a strong commitment to delivering results.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment.
