Position Purpose: The
Mechanical Designer II will support the design, development, testing, and fabrication of structures, mechanisms, and electrical assemblies for small spacecraft


Title: Mechanical Designer II

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $80,000 - $140,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

  • This job involves extensive use of SolidWorks for design and documentation of mechanical designs, working closely with mechanical engineering staff.
  • This position will be responsible for the creation of detailed fabrication drawings using GD&T, assembly and configuration drawings, BOMs, building and modifying assemblies in CAD, creation of harness routing models in CAD, and assembly instructions as required.
  • This job will include some original design work, updates and maintenance to existing designs, and providing support to engineering staff.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Required Qualifications/Education:

  • Associates degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience (6+ years preferred) working in mechanical or structural design of mechanisms, structures, and/or electronics assemblies.
  • 4+ years creating, working with, and organizing drawings of mechanical designs using SolidWorks (in the aerospace industry is a plus), as well as taking those designs through production.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM Professional is a plus.
  • An excellent grasp of drawing standards and a firm understanding of GD&T.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of machine shop manufacturing and tolerancing.
  • Experience designing multi-layer insulation (MLI) blankets for Spacecraft applications is a plus.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.


Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.  However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require BCT to shorten or extend the application window.
